The protesting farmers on Thursday 25th March 2021, stormed the ever busy Abraka/Ubiaruku road in their large numbers and barricaded the road.
They expressed their displeasure over the incessant killings, raping and maiming of farmers by the notorious Fulani Herdsmen.
Speaking on behalf of the farmers, Mr. Idigu Duke, disclosed that “the killings has been going on for quite some time now, just last Sunday, a man and his two sons were killed on their way coming back from farm.
“We are here today to register our greviences and call on the State and federal governments to come to our aid”.
The Executive Chairman, Ethiope east local government council, Rt. Hon. (Pharm) Ofobrukueta Victor, in company of personnel of the Department of State Security (DSS), army and police were at the Urhuoka junction and Campus 3 express junction addressed the protesting farmers.
The Executive Chairman assured them of speedy action, “I feel your pains, it’s not easy to loss a loved one, and crops.
“Today I am here to assure you that the issue of notorious Fulani Herdsmen terrorising our people will be looked into, and I can assure you that in 48 hours, something will be done to nip the activities of these Herdsmen.
“Your greviences have been heard and necessary action will be taken, I plead that you remove the barricades and allow free flow of traffic”, he said.
In response, the Farmers agreed to remove the barricades, “we have heard you sir, as you have spoken, we will remove the barricades and wait for government intervention”.
