Family Buries Two Years Old Boy Killed by NDLEA Operative In Delta

The two-year-old boy, Ivan Omhonria, who was killed by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in Delta State, has been buried.

Speaking to our correspondent on Wednesday in Asaba, the State capital, the deceased’s father, Mr Fidelis Omhonria, said that the family is going through a trying time.

Omhonria said, “We just finished the funeral service now at the St. Vienna Catholic church, DBS road.

“And he has been laid to rest at burial ground. He has gone to his maker. Our concern now is how to treat the child (his sibling).

NDLEA from operational headquarters and others were present at the burial ground and they are helping us to fast track the visa to the United States for further treatment.

“The Delta State Government has written to US embassy to fast-track the process so that the boy can go for treatment.

It would be recall that operatives of NDLEA, Delta Command have allegedly shot two brothers.

It was gathered that trouble started on Thursday July 13th 2023, when the operatives were chasing drug peddlers and purportedly shot sporadically into the air in Okpanam, a suburb of Asaba, Oshimili north local government area of the State.

It was learnt that the children were in their mother’s shop, a cake baker and owner of Hillsi Cakes N More Academy, after closing from school when the incident occured.

It was gathered that a stray bullet touched the younger of them on the eye while the older one was hit on his abdomen but they have been rushed to the Federal Medical Center (FMC), Asaba, for surgery.

Reliable information on Friday July 14th 2023, at the hospital, revealed that the one stray bullet touched on the abdomen, died on same date the incidence occured.

It would also be recall that the police in the State have arrested the happy trigger operative of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), whose stray bullet killed a two years old boy, Ivan Omorhiakogbe, on 13th July 2023 at Okpanam, during a raid to arrest drug peddlers.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Police Force, Abuja, has taken over investigation into the case of the Edo-Delta based family killed by a stray bullet from an operative of the NDLEA, in Okpanam, Oshimili north local government area of the State.
