Families Of Deceased Police Officers Receive Over N110 Million For ‘Paying the Ultimate Price’

Thirty-three family members of deceased police officers who :paid the ultimate price” in line of duty in the Delta State Police Command have received the sum of N110,485,291.96k under the Inspector General of Police’s (IGP) Family Welfare and Group Life Assurance Schemes.

The State Commissioner of Police, CP. Wale Abass, on Friday 8th December 2023, handed over the cheques to the 33 beneficiaries at the Command’s headquarters, Okpanam Road, Asaba, the State capital.

Abass, who presented the cheques on behalf of the IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, noted that the monumental loss of the fallen heroes were incomparable to the value of the cheques.

He said the donation was the IGP’s way of saying that he felt their pains, adding that the welfare package was aimed at ameliorating the hardship being experienced by the families of those who died in active service.

The Commissioner of Police, who condoled with the deceased families, urged them to reciprocate the kind gesture of the IGP by making judicious use of the money for the benefit of their families and be assured of the support of the Command at all times.

In a release by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Edafe Bright and made available to journalists said “CP Abass acknowledged the deep sense of concern of the Inspector General of Police, especially on the wellbeing of the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force”.

His words: “On 06/12/2023, the Commissioner of Police Delta State Command, CP Wale Abass psc, has presented cheques of One Hundred and Ten Million, Four Hundred and Eighty-Five Thousand, Two Hundred and Ninety-One Naira, Ninety-Six Kobo (#110,485,291.96k) to families of deceased officers who paid the ultimate prize in the line of duty.

“The cheques issued on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, IGP Olukayode Egbetokun, are parts of the IGP Family Welfare and Group Life Assurance Schemes presented to 33 beneficiaries who are next of Kin to the deceased officers.

“CP Wale Abass, while presenting the cheques to the beneficiaries, expressed his appreciation for the IGP’s generosity, stating that the cheques will help the families tremendously and serve as a reminder that even if their loved ones are no longer with them, the sacrifices they made can never be forgotten.

“CP Wale Abass acknowledged the deep sense of concern of the Inspector General of Police, especially on the wellbeing of the officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force.

“He assured that the police is relentless in its welfare scheme for its personnel, and will not back down on the initiative, especially for all deceased officers who sacrificed their lives fighting for the peace and progress of the country.

“The CP admonished the beneficiaries to make good use of the money given to them”.

One of the beneficiaries Isioma Francisca Ogabu, who is the next of kin to the late Inspector Ogabu Ndidi, who spoke on behalf of other beneficiaries, thanked the IGP for the gesture and promised to make judicious use of the money.
