Delta State Commissioner for secondary education, Mrs Rose Ezewu has stormed Ugbolu secondary school in Oshimili north local government area on a first-hand investigation into an alleged extortion racket over enrolment for junior secondary school examinations.

Mrs Ezewu said her visit to the school was informed by the alleged extortion of students for BECE enrolment by the principal,

The commissioner made the disclosure on Wednesday January 31st 2024, during a fact finding visit to the school.

She said it was necessary due to the weighty allegation which was a major issue of discussion on Delta radio morning program.

The Secondary education Commissioner, stated that Exams and Standards department of the ministry had issued guidelines to school principals regarding the secondary school examinations.

She called on principals in the state’s own secondary schools to take charge of government property in their areas of assignment.

The quintessential commissioner during the fact finding visit, admonished principals to adhere to the enrolment guidelines.

She stressed on the need for them to always get clarification from Chief Inspectors of Education (CIE) in their local government on directives that require further explanations.

She noted that there was need for principals to continue to synergize with the leadership of Parents Teachers Association (PTA) in the course of implementing policies from the ministry.

“There would be disconnection when principals do not carry parents of their students along in the course of implementing directives from the ministry and this often would give rise to misconception upon which such allegation of extortion is formed.

“To ensure that they do not find their self in such situation, they must often to relate with the leadership of PTA who would help them take directives of the ministry to the communities for better understanding” she said.

Ezewu while soliciting for the cooperation of the media in education sector, enjoined the practitioners to be thorough in their investigation on issues for report balancing before going to the press.
