In the past two days, the media both online and mainstream, are abuzz with alleged news of the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori stripping Ozoro University of Science and Technology of two critical faculties.
It was alleged that the governor has moved them to Orerokpe, the administrative headquarters of Okpe local government area of the State.
The move, it was gathered was to establish the Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro, Campus in Orerokpe.
The allegation has sparked angry reactions from both notable sons of Ozoro and Isoko nation in the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) and the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC).
The faculty of Administration and Management, with the following departments, Business Administration, Accountancy, Banking & Finance, Marketing, Entrepreneurship, Office Information & Management, Transport & Marine Technology and Public Administration were allegedly moved to Orerokpe campus.
It was gathered that the Governing Council of the University signed out the above listed departments, purportedly granting the governor the powers to moved them to Orerokpe, to be known as Delta State University of Science and Technology, Orerokpe Campus.
It was gathered that on the fateful day, the Vice Chancellor of the institution, quickly called for an unsecured council meeting which ought not to be for thay day.
It was alleged that the State Commissioner for Higher Education was present at the meeting.
A source revealed that it was abnormal for the Higher Education Commissioner to be present at the Governing Council meeting of the school.
According to the impeccable source, the Commissioner announced that he was at the meeting to represent the Governor.
According to the source, “as the meeting progressed, the Commissioner told them that Sheriff has ordered the Faculty of Management Sciences, which is the school’s biggest Faculty and major revenue generator to be moved to a new campus that will be sited in Orerokpe.
“The VC was shaking as he signed the new campus to be created.
“In his response, he said the governor owns the school and can do as he wish.
“Another Faculty will be moved to a campus in Osubi. I’m yet to lay hold of the information for the courses that will be moved”, he said.
At press time, efforts to reach the State Commissioner for Higher Education, Prof. Tonukari Johnbull, proved abortive.
