Fresh revelations of substandard project execution have surfaced in Okpe, the local government area of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, raising critical concerns over the quality of governance and accountability under his leadership.
These were uncovered by the Commissioner for Works, Rural and Riverine Roads, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, during an inspection tour of projects, revealing that a significant number of projects in Okpe LGA, Governor Oborevwori’s home turf, may be poorly executed, leaving residents disillusioned and demanding answers.
Among the glaring cases of negligence are newly constructed drains that have already developed cracks while still under construction and slow pace of road construction.
The Commissioner complained bitterly about the rapid deterioration poor engineering work and waste of materials, calling for a blacklist of a certain contractor whose work is shabby.
An indigene who simply identified himself as Efe, voiced his frustration: “We welcomed these projects with hope, but they have brought nothing but disappointment. The governor must answer for these failures. Delta State deserves better.”
Sources within the local government hint at a deeper malaise, accusing officials of colluding with contractors to embezzle funds.
The said contracts are allegedly awarded to firms with political connections but lacking the capacity to deliver high-quality work.
These revelations have sparked calls for a comprehensive audit of all projects executed under the governor’s administration.
The need for accountability
With these revelations, Deltans are growing increasingly vocal, demanding transparency and accountability.
If urgent steps are not taken to address these shortcomings, Governor Oborevwori risks losing public trust and further eroding confidence in the governance of the State.
Deltans are watching closely, waiting to see if the administration will uphold its promise of “More for All.”
