Warri, Effurun, and Udu communities were agog with excitement as the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, embarked on an inspection tour of key infrastructure projects, including the multibillion-naira Udu Harbour Market, the Enerhen Junction Flyover, and the expansive storm drainage systems across the area.
The visit, part of Governor Oborevwori’s commitment to delivering quality infrastructure under his MORE Agenda, was marked by jubilation from residents and traders who lined the streets to welcome him.
Market women, in particular, turned out in large numbers to express their gratitude for what they described as a people-centered and inclusive development strategy.
The Governor inspected significant progress at the Udu Harbour Market, a modern commercial hub under construction comprising 604 lock-up shops, 120 open stalls, a state-of-the-art abattoir, and supporting facilities.
Describing the project as one of the largest markets in the state, Oborevwori highlighted its potential to stimulate economic activity and generate sustainable income for local residents.
“This market is a strategic economic asset. Upon completion, it will drive growth, create jobs, and strengthen the commercial backbone of this region,” the Governor stated.
He also visited ongoing works on major roads, including Opete Road, Orhuwhorun Road, and the Aladja/Ogbe-Ijoh Road, reiterating that infrastructure development under his administration cuts across all senatorial districts and local government areas.
“I am an Urhobo man, but I am Governor for all Deltans,” Oborevwori emphasized. “No community or region is left behind in our development plans.
“Every project is fully funded, and we are not owing contractors. In fact, Delta is one of the few states where contractors are paid promptly.”
The inspection also took the Governor to the Enerhen Junction Flyover site, a major traffic-easing project handled by construction giant Julius Berger.
Governor Oborevwori commended the contractor for maintaining world-class standards and assured motorists that final works, including asphalting, would soon be completed.
“This flyover is designed to significantly ease movement across Warri and its environs,” he said. “I understand the delays have caused inconvenience, but relief is coming soon.”
The Project Manager of Julius Berger, Mr. Thamos Haut Haug, conducted the Governor around the project sites, explaining technical aspects of the completed ramps and backfills in preparation for the final construction phase.
Governor Oborevwori also inspected Phase III of the Airport Road/Ugborikoko/Ugboroke flood control project, a key urban renewal initiative under the Warri/Uvwie and Environs Development Agency.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to addressing erosion, flooding, and other environmental challenges through strategic infrastructure.
“Our goal is to improve the quality of life for all Deltans,” he stated. “We’re not just building roads and markets—we’re building a future. This is just the beginning. We will continue to do more.”
The Governor’s visit was widely praised by residents, community leaders, and motorists, many of whom applauded his hands-on leadership and the transformative impact of his administration’s projects.
