For indigenes and residents of Edjophe Community in Ughelli south local government area of Delta State, these are soul-lifting times.
For over two years, indigenes and residents of the community suffered under persistent electricity blackout. But now, the story has changed as a new transformer has been bought and donated to them to end the years of acute darkness.
A young philanthropist, a stalwart of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), and an entrepreneur, from Oginibo Community, Comrade Oteri Homes, foldly addressed as Ghanabar, wiped the years of power outage and long-suffering that bedeviled the community.
Women of the community took to the streets to sing the praises of the vibrant young man who always put people first in all he does by donating a 200KVA transformer to the community as part of his Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), scheme.
Ghanabar, has equally built a five-star hotel, named Ghana-bar, in the community to raise the economic standard of the people and the adjoining towns.
The women, girls and other youths chanted “Up up Ghanabar”, “Ghanabar dey work, we dey see am” songs to express their gratitude to him for the development and the donation of the transformer.
They described him as the “Governor of the Street”, “the Boss Man”, “the Adjalakpo 1 of Ughievwen kingdom”, as the crowd grew gradually with children joining the march for the jubilation.
Residents of the locality, who could not hide their joy, expressed gratitude to Ghanabar for being sensitive to their plight, praying God to continue to use him to do greater things for the people.
Speaking to journalists, a community member, Mrs Michael Esther, said: “Ghanabar is a very nice, caring and supportive.
“What government and the community could not do for two years, he has done it for us. He is our future leader, he has done well for us and he helps us to put off our burdens.
“I have not seen any person like Ghanabar, no one in this whole area will say he/she has not been blessed by him one way or another.
“I believe in him and if you come to him for any challenge, he will do everything to solve it and anyone that is working against him, God will go against that person”, she declared.
Another respondent, Faith Kpohraror, disclosed that 75 percent of young boys get their daily livelihood from him.
“This transformer was just a call, three days later, we saw a truck with transformer.
“We are praying that the state governor will remember him for appointment because he is someone that will always help the youths.
“And I know the youths will help him to deliver in any position given to him”, he said.
