The Delta State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has cautioned local government councils across the state to strictly comply with the provisions of the Public Procurement Law.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Chukwudi Dafe, issued the warning during an interactive session with officials of the Delta State Public Procurement Commission (DSPPC), held at Committee Room 2 of the Assembly Complex in Asaba.

Dafe explained that the engagement formed part of the committee’s constitutional oversight responsibilities, stressing that the goal was to ensure transparency, accountability, and due process in local government administration.

Flanked by committee members—Hon. Ferguson Onwo, Hon. Emmanuel Sinebe, Hon. Isaac Anwuzia, and Hon. Austin Uroye, he underscored that strict compliance with procurement laws was critical to promoting good governance and preventing financial irregularities in the management of public resources.

“The Delta State Assembly will continue to exercise its oversight mandate to ensure that local councils adhere fully to relevant laws and regulations,” Dafe assured.

Also speaking, Hon. Ferguson Onwo emphasized that ignorance of the law cannot be an excuse, noting that due process must be followed at every stage of the procurement process.

Responding, Chairman of the Public Procurement Commission, Mr. David Igbodo, commended the lawmakers for their robust deliberations.

He pledged that the commission would collaborate with the 25 local government councils to enforce full compliance with the procurement law.

The session also provided a platform for constructive engagement between the legislature and the commission, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to strengthening accountability and transparency in governance.
