The Delta State House of Assembly (DTHA), Committee on Capital Territory Development has commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his administration’s remarkable transformation of Asaba, describing the capital city’s ongoing infrastructural revolution as a model of strategic urban renewal and good governance.

Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Benson Obire, gave the commendation during an oversight visit by members of the committee to inspect ongoing projects executed by the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA).

Hon. Obire, who represents Warri South II Constituency, noted that the rapid infrastructural growth across the capital territory is a direct reflection of Governor Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, emphasizing that the results on the ground demonstrate “a clear vision, effective leadership, and prudent management of resources.”

He further commended the Director-General of DSCTDA, Mr. Patrick Ukah, and his management team for their impressive performance in the implementation of the 2025 budget.

According to him, the agency’s record of over 80 percent budget performance underscores its commitment to accountability, transparency, and efficiency in service delivery.

“What we have seen today is a clear testimony that the Oborevwori administration is walking the talk,” Hon. Obire stated.

“These projects are not just beautifying Asaba; they are improving livelihoods, opening up economic spaces, and addressing long-standing infrastructural gaps in the capital territory.”

The lawmaker explained that the oversight visit was part of the Assembly’s constitutional mandate to assess the performance of Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in line with approved budgetary allocations.

During the exercise, the committee members, in company of the DSCTDA team, inspected several key projects including Chris Abudei Street, Ogbueshi Onochie Street, and the Asaba International Market being developed by EFAB Properties.

Other inspected sites included Okwe Market/Umuapa Quarters Road, St. Theresa Catholic Church Road, Old Oko Road in Okwe, the ongoing flood control works at Ogbe-Ilo and Ugbomanta Street, as well as the drainage channel linking Ogbe-Ogonogo Market to Otu-Ogwu Bay and the Ogbeogonigo Modern Market project.

Hon. Obire appealed to residents of Asaba and its environs to take ownership of public infrastructure, warning against indiscriminate dumping of refuse into drainage systems, which could undermine flood control measures and damage newly completed facilities.

In his remarks, Mr. Patrick Ukah, Director-General of DSCTDA, expressed gratitude to the lawmakers for their visit and lauded Governor Oborevwori for his unwavering support and consistent funding of the agency’s developmental projects.

“Our achievements today are a direct outcome of His Excellency’s visionary leadership and commitment to a modern, organized, and beautiful capital city,” Ukah said.

“The Governor has provided both the resources and the policy direction needed to deliver on the MORE Agenda.”

Ukah reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to building a cleaner, safer, and more aesthetically pleasing Asaba, while describing the legislative oversight process as a vital tool for promoting transparency, accountability, and collaboration between the Executive and the Legislature.

Also speaking, Mr. Nyekesi, representative of EFAB Properties, revealed that the new Asaba International Market, designed to host over 600 shops, would be delivered on schedule, adding that the project would significantly boost commercial activities and enhance the city’s business landscape upon completion.

Members of the oversight delegation included Hon. Festus Utuama, Hon. Spencer Owhofa, Hon. Matthew Omonade, and Hon. Bino Obowomano.

According to DSCTDA, the oversight visit aligns with the state government’s broader vision of sustainable urban development, fiscal accountability, and balanced infrastructural growth across the Delta State Capital Territory.
