As the Delta State House of Assembly prepares to resume plenary sessions following the Christmas and New Year break, the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Nkem Nwaeke, asserts that 2026 presents a significant opportunity for a productive legislature and an economically prosperous Delta State.

Nwaeke emphasized that the 8th Delta Assembly, under the stewardship of Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Dennis Guwor, is committed to advancing people-oriented governance.

He noted that the new year brings a renewed chance for robust lawmaking, effective oversight, and constructive collaboration with the executive branch and various stakeholders to foster overall state development.

The recent recess, Nwaeke explained, allowed Assembly members to engage with their constituents, reassess policy priorities, and reflect on the socio-economic challenges faced by the populace.

As plenary resumes, the Assembly is poised to transform these engagements into concrete legislative actions addressing critical issues such as economic growth, job creation, security, infrastructure development, education, healthcare, and social welfare.

In 2026, Nwaeke expects the Assembly to prioritize the passage of vital legislation aimed at strengthening institutions, enhancing transparency, and improving service delivery.

Legislative efforts will focus on boosting internally generated revenue, supporting small and medium enterprises, and creating a conducive environment for investment.

He further stated that under the pragmatic leadership of Speaker Guwor, oversight functions will remain a key priority.

The Assembly is dedicated to ensuring accountability in the execution of government policies and projects, guaranteeing that public resources are effectively utilized, and that government programs yield tangible benefits for citizens across Delta State.

Speaker Guwor has consistently highlighted the importance of cooperation and mutual respect among the branches of government.

Nwaeke anticipates that the Assembly will maintain a harmonious relationship with the executive while upholding its constitutional independence, an essential factor for the timely passage of bills and the successful implementation of development plans.

Additionally, Nwaeke reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to inclusiveness and responsiveness. As the year progresses, he expects greater engagement with relevant stakeholders, including the media, ensuring that legislation reflects the aspirations of all societal segments.

Expressing strong optimism, Nwaeke believes that Speaker Guwor, who serves as the National Treasurer of the Conference of Speakers of State Houses of Assembly, will continue to inspire dedicated service to the state.

“Deltans look to the Assembly not only for laws but for leadership, advocacy, and solutions. The Speaker will motivate his colleagues to strive for greater achievements,” he stated.

He concluded, “With a collective resolve and purposeful leadership, 2026 promises a productive legislature and a more prosperous Delta State.”
