In line with the Oborevwori-led administration’s drive to promote a clean, safe, and green environment, the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA) has decried the growing menace of indiscriminate waste dumping around the Koka Flyover Bridge in Asaba.

During an inspection and sensitization exercise conducted on Friday, April 4, 2025, the Head of Administration and Finance of DSCTDA, Mr. Vincent Ohwofadjeke, expressed serious concern over the transformation of the flyover into an illegal refuse dump.

Accompanied by agency staff, Mr. Ohwofadjeke warned that such negative practices will no longer be tolerated.

He condemned the persistent dumping of refuse along setbacks, walkways, drains, and other unauthorized locations in the capital territory, as well as illegal trading activities taking place under the flyover.

He called on residents, especially traders and shop owners, to register with accredited waste disposal firms and adhere to proper waste management practices.

“The Agency is not out to punish traders or inflict pain on anyone,” Ohwofadjeke said while addressing traders at the Summit Fruit Market.

“But those found dumping waste in unauthorized areas will be apprehended and prosecuted. We are determined to keep Delta State clean.”

Ohwofadjeke further clarified that while DSCTDA is tasked with accelerating development within the capital territory, including environmental sanitation, the Delta State Waste Management Board is specifically responsible for maintaining cleanliness around the Koka Flyover.

He revealed that a public-private partnership has been established with PWAN Group, a real estate company, to beautify the flyover area.

Additionally, construction of a police post is underway beside the flyover, aimed at deterring criminal activity and removing miscreants and street urchins who have overrun the area.

In an effort to combat open defecation, the Agency also announced that a defunct public toilet near the flyover is being reconstructed, providing a hygienic alternative for residents and travelers.

“We urge all stakeholders to join hands with the government to maintain a clean and healthy environment. This is a collective responsibility,” Ohwofadjeke concluded.
