The Environment Unit and Taskforce of the Delta State Capital Territory Development Agency (DSCTDA), conducted a comprehensive sensitisation and enforcement exercise in the Ogbeogonogo market corridor, issuing Abatement Notices to traders, transport operators, and residents over indiscriminate refuse disposal and related environmental infractions.

The operation which took place on Thursday is part of the Agency’s sustained drive to enforce environmental sanitation regulations and restore order within the capital territory.

Areas covered during the exercise include Victor Odogwu Market opposite Ogbeogonogo Market; traders operating opposite Ogbeafor Primary School; Ukala Plaza opposite the Water Board; as well as the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Commercial Motorcycles and Tricycles Operators Association (COMTOA) within the Ogbeogonogo axis.

Addressing stakeholders during the exercise, the Head of Environment Unit, Mr. Isaac Nwoso, said the sensitisation campaign was designed to educate traders and residents on proper waste disposal practices and the critical need to maintain a clean and healthy environment.

He cautioned that indiscriminate dumping of refuse on road medians and other unauthorised locations constitutes a breach of environmental sanitation laws and will no longer be condoned.

Mr. Nwoso further stated that recipients of the Abatement Notices are required to comply immediately by maintaining proper sanitation within and around their premises, warning that failure to comply will attract enforcement measures in line with extant regulations.

Reaffirming the Agency’s position, the Director-General of DSCTDA, Mr. Patrick Ukah, declared zero tolerance for environmental violations, stressing that the Agency remains resolute in enforcing sanitation laws to ensure Asaba retains its status as a clean, orderly, and environmentally sustainable capital territory.

He called on traders, transport operators, and residents to cooperate fully with the Agency and embrace responsible waste disposal practices in the interest of public health and environmental safety.
