The Director General of Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr (Barr) Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, has eulogized the State governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori on his leadership style, describing him as a “good man”.
The DG spoke on Sunday September 8, 2024, during the reception of his Thanksgiving Service in appreciation to God Almighty, in respect of his appointment as the Director General of the Bureau, at Squash Club, beside Government House, Asaba.
He disclosed that the governor broke the yoke that was difficult for others to break, stressing that the yoke was so heavy as it was choking at a point.
Hear him: “In fact, he broke the yoke that was so difficult to break, that yoke was heavy. 2017 up till now, as EA Communications and when he also became Governor, he returned me as EA Communications Bureau.
“It got to a point, the thing was very choking. So, I cried to my father in the Lord and said Daddy, are you leaving me like this? He said we should pray and that at the appropriate time, God, will do it. Today, He has done it.
“Delta State, is peaceful, the governor is working. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, is somebody I know 48 years ago and I know him to be a good person from that time.
“Because while we were in school in those days, some of us were not privileged. I came from a poor background. But he was rich, his father was wealthy, he was living well.
“So, when he was returning from holidays, he will buy food and beverages for himself and buy for us. So, I know him to be a good man.
“So, when he became the governor and I remained EA, I was asking myself, is this the same person that I know? I went to him and asked him, have you changed? He said no.
“And today, he has shown to me that he is truly that man with a good heart that I knew 48 years ago.
“And what really gladens my heart about the governor is the good mind he has for Delta State, the mind he is having right now, what we need to do, is to support him.
“He wants to do so much for this State and I plead with us to keep praying for him because that seat, is not easy”, saying that there are forces hell bent on how the governor could do their biddings.
Continuing, he said: “for Deltans, the governor is doing so much, he is planning to turn Warri, Stadium to a mega international stadium”, disclosing that the master plan of the stadium would soon be ready.
“And when the master plan of the Warri Stadium is ready, you will know that the Ukodo, that we have today, is truly the governor. That stadium will be rated the best in Africa.
“The kind of infrastructure the governor is building, and I want us to be patient with him, he has good plans for the state” adding that the governor loves the media.
He used the opportunity to task media organisations to support the governor and in case of any information, they should be verified and reverified by ensuring that they reach out to the information managers of the governor and State to clear grey areas before doing to press.
“I want the press to support the governor. Some editors who are here, you are the gatekeepers. If anybody calls you for a press release or tells you something, check that thing he has told you”.
He urged editors to speak to their reporters at their editorial meetings to portray the State government and the governor in good light, saying “if people are alleging, as a gatekeeper of your organization, please, call us, verify those facts with us before you go and publish”, he stressed.
