The Executive Chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Council, Hon. Dr. Lucky Irorefe Avweromre, has reiterated his administration’s commitment to enhancing the learning environment for pupils within the local government area.
Dr. Avweromre gave the assurance on Monday, March 17, 2025, during the official handover of writing desks to Otu-Jeremi Model Primary School, as part of his ongoing efforts to support basic education in the region.
Speaking during the presentation, Dr. Avweromre emphasized that the initiative aligns with the M.O.R.E. Agenda of Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, which places premium importance on providing quality education across the state.
He affirmed that Ughelli South Local Government will continue to prioritize education and ensure that learning conditions meet modern standards.
It will be recalled that prior to the current administration, the school faced a shortage of desks following the removal of a significant number of furniture items by a contractor during renovation works.
The temporary absence of the desks caused concern among stakeholders. In response, Dr. Avweromre pledged to supply additional furniture to bridge the gap and ensure that every pupil has a suitable place to learn.
Receiving the desks on behalf of the school, the Secretary to the Local Education Authority (LEA), Mr. Samuel Abido; Vice Chairman of the Council, Hon. Happy Mukoro; Head of Personnel Management, Chief Austin Emaduku; and Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Okoro God’sglory Igho, expressed profound appreciation to the council chairman.
They described the gesture as a fulfillment of his earlier promise and a testament to his dedication to educational development.
While addressing the gathering, Dr. Avweromre warned against the misuse or vandalism of school property, stating that the government would not hesitate to take legal action against individuals or groups found tampering with public assets.
He urged teachers and parents to ensure proper supervision of the school’s facilities during and after school hours.
