The Ughelli South Local Government Council has marked the one-year anniversary of its Executive Chairman, Hon. Dr. Lucky I. Avweromre, PhD, JP, celebrating a year of transformational leadership, grassroots empowerment, and visible development strides since assuming office on July 15, 2024.
Upon his swearing-in in Asaba, Dr. Avweromre unveiled a visionary four-point agenda centered on Peace, Unity, Innovation, and Development.
Twelve months on, his administration has recorded notable progress across critical sectors, positioning Ughelli South as a model for responsive and people-driven governance at the local level.
Landmark Achievements Across Sectors
The Avweromre-led administration has successfully initiated and delivered multiple projects in healthcare, education, infrastructure, security, and rural development. Among the completed and ongoing projects are:
Healthcare and Sanitation
Rehabilitation of Okwagbe Health Center
Construction of Security House and Solar Energy installation at the facility
Overhead tank installation and health facility upgrade in Okpe-Olomu
Construction of solar-powered boreholes and modern amenities at a resettlement center in Okuama (ongoing)
Education
Renovation of 3-classroom and 7-classroom blocks at Gbaregolor Primary School 1
Provision of 100 tables and chairs for Orhowhe Primary School, Edjophe-Iwhrakan
Similar furnishing support to Ughevwien Primary School, Otu-Jeremi
Award of scholarships to 21 students at Delta State Maritime Polytechnic, Burutu (Gbaregolor Campus)
Infrastructure and Community Development
Grading and sand filling of 4.3km Ewu–Oviri-Olomu Road
Construction of a 50-meter wooden bridge connecting Omosuomo Inland and Waterside
Sand filling of access roads and construction of car parks
Extensive renovation and furnishing of administrative buildings and legislative chambers
Procurement of official vehicles for council staff, legislators, and the NUT, Ughelli South chapter
Economic Empowerment
Distribution of cassava grinding machines to communities including Otor-Ewu, Okparabe, and Arhavwarien
Launch of constituency projects in all 20 wards, supervised by respective councillors (ongoing)
