The Delta Online Publishers Forum (DOPF) has raised the alarm over rising tension among ethnic nationalities in Warri, particularly in Warri South Local Government Area, warning that the situation requires urgent dialogue to safeguard peace and stability in the state.
In a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary, Mr. Oghenekparobo Ehvwubare, FIMC, ANIPR, the Forum emphasized that peace remains the foundation for unity, development, and sustainable coexistence.
DOPF drew attention to the 2025 International Day of Peace, commemorated globally every September 21, with this year’s theme:
“Act Now for a Peaceful World.” Citing the United Nations, the Forum noted that peace is not a distant aspiration but a present responsibility demanding immediate action from individuals, communities, governments, and traditional institutions.
Expressing concern that Delta State is already grappling with insecurity in some areas, the Forum cautioned that any escalation of ethnic conflict in Warri, the commercial heartbeat of the state, would have grave socio-economic repercussions for the entire region.
“Warri has long been the economic and social lifeline of Delta State. Allowing ethnic tensions to escalate in such a vital hub is unacceptable. The path to lasting peace lies in dialogue, inclusivity, and mutual understanding,” the statement read.
Accordingly, DOPF called on the Delta State Government, security agencies, and traditional rulers to take proactive measures by fostering dialogue and inclusiveness, while ensuring that sustainable peace is maintained through continuous engagement.
The Forum further appealed to youths, community leaders, and stakeholders to exercise restraint, reminding them that while conflict leaves scars that may last generations, peace strengthens unity, attracts growth, and brings shared prosperity.
Concluding, the Forum urged all stakeholders to embrace tolerance over division and unity over discord, stressing that the International Day of Peace provides a timely reminder to act now to secure a peaceful Delta State.
