… As Ogieh promises to leave worthy legacies

The Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, DESOPADEC,  Tuesday September 22, 2020, flagged off the 2020 promotion exercise for staff of the Commission.

The exercise was flagged off by the Managing Director/ CEO of  DESOPADEC, Bashorun Askia Ogieh, with the training of  some selected staff from the Administration and Supplies Department, who will be in charge of the exercise.

Bashorun Askia Ogieh, while addressing all present at the exercise, said his administration had promised to make promotion exercise an annual one in the Commission hence, the decision to start that of  2020 before the year ran out.

Bashorun Ogieh noted that the essence of the yearly promotion exercise is to guarantee job satisfaction and protection. He also stated that Public Service is career based and as such, staff need  to grow according to the Public Service rules.

The MD further spoke on his concerns which dwell not only on infrastructural development, but also on human capital development. He therefore made a promise to leave DESOPADEC with worthy legacies.

Speaking to those being trained for the upcoming exercise, Bashorun Ogieh advised that they take the training seriously so they can learn something tangible that will help to build a better DESOPADEC.

He admonished them to apply the ” Golden rule of Justice ” which states that every action they take, must be justified. He further advised the Staff in Administration And Supplies Department to live above board and not allow unnecessary things to becloud their sense of judgement.

Earlier, the Executive Director  Finance And Administration, DESOPADEC, Chief John Obukowho Nani, who was ably represented by the Head of Administration And Supplies, Pastor Ferdinand Ebiboh, in his opening speech, said the refresher training exercise is preceding the 2020 promotion exercise. He said the essence is for those being trained to be abreast with all necessary procedures needed to make the exercise a successful one.

He however admonished them to ensure they used the interactive session to get answers from the resource persons on issues they are bothered about.

While speaking, one of the resource persons, Mr Francis Ohawa, who is a Director from Planning Research And Statistics (PRS) Asaba, said the life wire of an organization is the department of Administration, especially, the Personnel and Promotion Units.

He however advised those in charge of these Department and Units to set aside relationships in carrying out their job functions.

This he said, would enable them work in line with what is stipulated in the Public Service rules.

Mr. Ohawa further advised that people’s qualifications should form the basis of their promotion to different cadres, stating that the scheme of establishments should be used as a guide for all matters that relate to promotion.

Present at the flag off exercise, were the Executive Director, Planning Research And Statistics, DESOPADEC, Ambassador Shedrack Agediga, Mr. Edward Odjeni, Chief Admin Officer, representing the Director of Establishments, Asaba, various Heads of Departments and Units as well as Staff from the Department of Administration And Supplies.
