The Stephen Keshi International Stadium, Asaba, venue of the 2021 Praise and Thanksgiving Day, in commemoration of the 6th year anniversary of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration, was empty with a handful of Deltans before the governor gave his remarks.
The programme held on Saturday May 29th 2021, witnessed a mammoth crowd who drifted away one after the other soon after the gospel singers and senior pastor, Dunamis International Gospel Centre, Pastor Dr. Paul Eneche, ended his 10 minutes but powerful exhortation.
Before the governor mounted the podium to address Deltans, the stadium that was parked full, was almost deserted at about 4:00pm.
Earlier, in a Spirit filled message, titled: “The value of thanksgiving”, with the text drawn from Psalms 101:1-5, the general overseer said: “Thanksgiving is one of the fastest virtues on earth.
He listed five categories of people in the Church to include People who rapidly forget what God has done for them”, describing them as people with very short memory span.
“People who possesses an entitlement mentality. They think they are entitled to everything. Whatever we get in life, is not something that we deserve.
There are women who don’t have anyone to give them money to cook before you understand that you don’t deserve what your husband gives to you.
“Those who attribute their results to their efforts. So, they don’t owe anybody thanks. No matter how talented, connected, wiser and educated you are, there are people who are talented than you that are not where you are.
“Those who are absolutely unsatisfiable. They are not satisfied with whatever they are and those who are outrightly ungrateful. They have pride and senseless”.
While noting that we owe God thanksgiving, Dr. Eneche, disclosed that we need to thank God “for forgiving us our iniquities. Because if God is to deal with us according to our sins, you will not be here.
“For healing our diseases. You are not healthy by your power. My dearly beloved, you are normal now, you don’t know what it takes to be healthy. If you are on your feet, you should appreciate God for giving you good health.
“For redeeming your life from death. There is nobody who slept last night and woke up by his power. Nobody can wake up in the morning and say he woke up by his might. You can’t determine your breath”.
The medical doctor, turned pastor, charged Deltans to humble themself, stressing that every single day one sees the sun, “it is an opportunity to praise God. Let everything that has breathe, praise the Lord.
“If you praise God, he multiplies you. The peace in Delta State will multiply. No place here for killers and drug addicts”, adding that God preserves, gives long life and perfection.
Meanwhile, in his speech, the governor thanked Deltan who have continued to give him support, “Deltans have been with me and even since then, this day has continue to be our praise and thanksgiving day”.
He acknowledged that the state that praise would never have challenge just as the governor who spoke to a near empty stadium appreciated Team Delta for their victory at the Sports festival held in Beini City, Edo State, recently.
He equally acknowledge that he would have used the opportunity to speak to Deltans “but a lot of people have gone but I will speak to Deltans on Monday through a press briefing”, he disclosed.
