Women in Delta State have been encouraged to promote unity, love, and peace within their communities to build a more empowered and inclusive society.

This charge was given at the International Women’s Day (IWD) celebration held at the Dome Event Center, Asaba, on Friday, March 7, 2025.

The women in attendance were also urged to become agents of change in their various fields of endeavor.

Speaking on this year’s IWD theme, “Accelerate Action,” Her Excellency, Deaconess Tobore Oborevwori, emphasized the importance of fast-tracking efforts to eliminate barriers to gender equality.

She congratulated the women from all 25 Local Government Areas, reminding them of their unique strength and vitality.

“We are specially and wonderfully made; a rare breed, full of strength and vitality, elegant, powerful, and influential,” she stated.

Deaconess Oborevwori encouraged women to prioritize their health, lead by example, and support one another in their collective pursuit of progress.

The keynote speaker, Hon. Bridget Anyafulu, representing Oshimili South State Constituency, highlighted the historical contributions of women in community affairs.

She emphasized that gender equality is not about replacing traditional roles but fostering inclusive and sustainable development.

In her welcome address, the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Barr. Pat Ajudua, commended Deaconess Oborevwori’s commitment to advancing women’s welfare in the state.

She also praised the Governor’s wife’s “You Matter Charity Foundation” for its empowerment programs, particularly in socio-economic initiatives and child welfare.

Expert discussions were led by Dr. Minnie Oseji (Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Environment), Mrs. Noma Imilar (Branch Manager, Providus Bank Asaba), and Barr. Uche Akamaguna, covering topics on women’s health, investment opportunities, and legal rights.

The event also featured a trade fair with 50 vendors from across Delta State, showcasing food, agricultural products, and traditional attire.

Deaconess Oborevwori led guests in patronizing the women’s businesses, reinforcing her commitment to economic empowerment.

Many attendees commended the inclusive initiatives of Deaconess Oborevwori and her foundation, while also praising Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his strides in infrastructural development across the state.

The event concluded with an award presentation, where Warri North won Best Shop, Okpe secured second place, and Aniocha South was recognized as the Best Dressed Local Government Area.
