Widows benefiting from the Delta State Widows Welfare Scheme have lauded Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for the timely payment of their October stipends, describing the gesture as a lifeline in the face of economic hardship.
For many beneficiaries, widowhood comes with emotional and financial challenges.
The State Government’s consistent support, they noted, has continued to provide relief, stability, and renewed hope for thousands of vulnerable women across Delta State.
Speaking with journalists in Asaba, the State Coordinator of the Widows Welfare Scheme, Chief Isioma Okonta, praised Governor Oborevwori for what he termed “compassionate and exemplary leadership.”
He confirmed that the stipends for all 10,000 verified widows under the scheme were credited directly into their bank accounts between Wednesday 19th and Friday 21st October, in accordance with the Governor’s directive.
Chief Okonta further commended the Governor’s unwavering commitment to sustaining the monthly payments, stressing that the initiative has continued to brighten the lives of disadvantaged women who underwent a rigorous verification process before their inclusion in the programme.
He also disclosed that, with the full enrollment of all 10,000 widows now completed, the Free Health Care Service Registration, also approved by Governor Oborevwori, is nearing its final stages.
According to him, the registration exercise has been ongoing and will soon provide beneficiaries with improved access to essential healthcare services.
In heartfelt appreciation, many beneficiaries offered prayers for Governor Oborevwori, expressing gratitude for his dedication to the welfare of widows and the overall progress of Delta State.
