The Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa-led administration in Delta State, has assured that ‘Sports Clinic’, would be put in place for talented players discovered in the 3rd and 5th editions of the Headmasters’ and Principals’ cups finals which would hold on 11th and 25th November 2021.
The government equally announced that both tournaments are meant to improve on their past editions, “as we are organizing both competitions to be inclusive with wider coverage”.
The Commissioner for Basic Education, Mr. Chika Ossai, in a joint press briefing with his Secondary School counterpart, Mrs. Rose Ezewu, stated this on Tuesday September 28th 2021.
They disclosed that in the current editions, 377 public and private primary schools and more than 300 public and private secondary schools have registered, “the kick-off of both tournaments are scheduled for Thursday 30th September 2021 and Thursday 7th October 2021 for the Headmasters’and Principals’ Cups respectively”.
According to the Commissioners, both would run through the preliminaries, zonal elimination, Quarter Final, and Semi final stages culminating in the finals.
They noted that this year’s edition of the Headmasters’ Cup football competition in the series of the tournaments is to promote the game of football at the primary school level while noting that the Zenith Bank Delta Principals’ Cup competition has become historically significant.
They promised that the new element introduced in the last edition by rewarding winning teams at the local government levels with cash award would be sustained in this edition.
Speaking earlier, the initiator, Mr. Tony Oritse Pemu, the lead person of Hideaplus Limited, disclosed that this year’s edition comes with upgraded quality in terms in march officiating, discipline, professionalism and technicality.
He noted that the “game is not to fulfill all righteousness but to explore and nurture discovered talents in the young ones and to groom them for international platforms”.
Other their part, Mr. Ijeoma Monday, a Senior Manger of Zenith Bank who represented the Bank Group Managing Director, Ebenezer Oguayin, disclosed that the Bank was interested in engaging the minds of the youths who are the major targets of insecurity.
“Zenith as a brand takes corporate social responsibility very seriously. We ensure that part of what we do is to develop our environment and one of the areas we have chosen over the years, is sports development”, he noted.
