The Delta State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), in collaboration with the Delta State Government, has commenced arrangements to host a five-day capacity-building workshop for 150 teachers selected from the 25 local government areas of the state.

The training programme, titled Strengthening Teacher English Proficiency (STEP), is designed to enhance teachers’ communication skills and improve the quality of classroom instruction, with particular emphasis on effective use of the English language.

According to SUBEB, the workshop will focus on transitioning from conventional teaching methods to modern, learner-centred approaches that actively engage students in the teaching and learning process.

In a joint statement, the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Hon. (Barr.) Samuel Mariere, and the Director of the Teacher Development Department, Mrs. Eru Ezefili, disclosed that the programme is residential and scheduled to hold from February 9 to 13, 2026, starting at 9:00 a.m. daily.

The venue for the workshop is Peace Garden Hotel International, No. 1 Justus Street, Igretakpere, Ughelli, in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State.

The organisers noted that the initiative underscores SUBEB’s commitment to continuous professional development of teachers and the promotion of quality basic education across the state.
