Delta School of Nursing Upgraded To College of Nursing

… Okowa set for flag off ceremony on Monday

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria has approved a college status for the Delta State School of Nursing to College of Nursing.

According to Delta State Director of the School of Nursing, Ministry of Health Mrs. Gloria Igumbor, the state currently have five schools of Nursing and midwifery which include School of Nursing in Agbor, Warri and Eku while the School of midwifery Asaba and Sapele .

She noted that school of nursing indexing number formally Agbor was 30 but through the intervention of the Governor of Delta State Sen Ifeanyi Okowa, it has increased to 100 which is one of the few state in Nigeria with the highest indexable number of students for Nursing and Midwifery programmes while Eku and Warri formally 50 now 75 each .

“The School of midwifery Asaba and Sapele was formally Post Basic now Basic Midwifery.

The States in the federation only has one college of Nursing but Delta State has been given three .

The flag off will be done by the Governor of Delta State Sen Ifeanyi Okowa on monday at Agbor, Ika South Delta State.

Upgrading the schools to college gave the schools opportunity to run their programme aside nursing and it bring about the certificate from OND to HND and BSC Degree .

Community nursing and Community midwifery programmes were also introduced to the schools.

Governor Okowa has repositioned the state to be a medical hub.

He deserved to be commended for his giant strides in the health sector.” she said.
