Delta Police Nab Suspected Kidnappers, Recovers Over N2 Million Ransom

The police in Delta State, South-south Nigeria, say they have rescued some kidnap victims in the state.

The police Commissioner in the state, Olufemi Abaniwonda, stated this on Thursday September 5, 2024, while briefing newsmen in Asaba.

Mr Abaniwonda, who paraded the suspects, at the Command’s headquarters in Okpanam said the Command acted on credible information at its disposal which led to the arrest of the suspects.

The Commissioner flanked by other top management team, disclosed that the suspects on sighting the police, made attempt to escape but were given a hot chase and subsequently apprehended.

His words: “Acting on credible intelligence, operatives of Ebrumede division while on patrol duty intercepted a tricycle conveying six-passengers.

“The suspects on sighting the Police attempted to escape but the operatives chased and arrested them.

“Upon search of the suspects, two million, three hundred and forty-four naira was recovered. Some suspected stolen phones were also recovered.

“Further investigation revealed that the phone belonged to their kidnapped victims and the money was part of the ransom the victims paid for their freedom”.

Several others were paraded alongside for various crimes including armed robbery, cultism and possession of prohibited illicit drugs.
