Delta Police Command Presents ₦37.66 Million To Families Of Fallen Officers

In a moving ceremony held at the Delta State Police Command headquarters, Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, presented cheques totaling ₦37,663,936 to the families of 35 police officers who died in active service.

The disbursement, made under the IGP Family Welfare Scheme and Group Life Assurance, reflects the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing commitment to honouring the service and sacrifice of its personnel, while supporting their loved ones left behind.

This was disclosed in a release on Tuesday August 12, 2025, to journalists in Asaba, the State capital.

Presenting the cheques, CP Abaniwonda said the gesture was a testament to the IGP’s dedication to the welfare of both serving and fallen officers’ families.

He emphasised that the Force and the nation deeply value the sacrifices made by the deceased officers.

“The welfare of our personnel and their families remains a priority for the IGP. Today’s presentation is not only financial support but also a reassurance that the sacrifices of your loved ones will never be forgotten,” CP Abaniwonda stated.

He commended the Inspector General’s compassion and leadership, noting that the funds would provide a meaningful boost to the beneficiaries and help them rebuild their lives.

Speaking on behalf of the recipients, Miss Chidinma Paul, one of the beneficiaries, expressed gratitude to the IGP and the Police Force for the support.

She assured that the funds would be utilised judiciously.

The event was witnessed by senior police officers, representatives of the beneficiaries, and members of the media.
