The Delta State Government, under the leadership of Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has once again demonstrated its commitment to faith and spiritual renewal by sponsoring a group of pilgrims on a journey to Jerusalem, Jordan, and Israel.
Representing the governor at the send-off ceremony, Dr. Kingsley Emu, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), urged the delegates to remain focused on the spiritual significance of their pilgrimage.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Emu emphasized that the journey was not a leisure trip, but a sacred mission aimed at deepening faith and interceding for the state and the nation.
He reminded the pilgrims that they were ambassadors of Delta State and encouraged them to uphold the values of integrity, discipline, and devotion.
“This pilgrimage is a spiritual engagement, not a vacation. You are intercessors, representing Delta State before God. As you visit holy sites, let your prayers not only be for yourselves but for our governor, our leaders, and our beloved state.”
Dr. Emu also touched on the challenges facing Nigeria, acknowledging economic difficulties but urging the pilgrims to maintain faith in the country’s progress. He noted that despite the hardship, Nigeria remains a land of great opportunities.
Pilgrimage Guidelines and Responsibilities
The Chairman of the Delta State Pilgrims Welfare Board, Apostle Sylvernus Okorote, laid out important guidelines for the trip, stressing the need for discipline and adherence to religious practices.
He made it clear that morning and evening devotions were mandatory, as they would serve as moments for collective prayers and reflection.
“Nobody stays in their rooms during devotion. This is a time to pray for yourselves, your families, and for His Excellency, the governor, who has made this journey possible.
“Not every state government sponsors pilgrimages like this, so let’s show our gratitude through prayers and good conduct.”
On security and conduct, Dr. Emu cautioned the pilgrims against engaging in illegal activities, particularly warning against carrying contraband items such as drugs or unauthorized goods.
“This is not a trip to smuggle or engage in unlawful activities. You are representing Delta State, and we expect you to uphold the highest level of discipline. Do not tarnish the image of the state.”
Additionally, he reminded them that they would be traveling in a chartered flight and emphasized the importance of punctuality and cooperation during security checks.
A Call for Prayers and Unity
Dr. Emu expressed optimism that the pilgrims would return spiritually uplifted and positively transformed. He encouraged them to take full advantage of the holy experience, praying earnestly and absorbing the lessons from the sacred sites they would visit.
“This journey will be life-changing. By the time you return, I believe you will not be the same but better, with renewed faith and purpose.”
The pilgrims, numbering 272 in total (172 males and 100 females), were urged to pray for the success of Delta State’s leadership, the progress of Nigeria, and for peace and prosperity.
With blessings from religious leaders and government officials, the delegation embarked on their sacred journey, carrying with them the hopes and prayers of their families and the entire Delta State community.
