DELTA LG POLLS: Oborevwori Gives Directive To Civil Servants

Ahead of the local government elections scheduled for July 13, 2024, workers in the State Civil Service have been directed to lock up all government offices at 12:00pm today, Friday July 12th, 2024.

The governor gave the directive to enable the workers participate fully in choosing who represents them in the forthcoming elections.

Secretary to Delta State Government, Dr Kingsley Emu, on Thursday in a statement made available to newsmen in Asaba, said the state governor’s directive is to enable public servants in the State to participate fully in the upcoming Local Government Council Elections scheduled to hold on Saturday, July 13, 2024, as part of their civic responsibilities.

The statement further added that voters are to conduct themselves peacefully during the elections as security personnel have been put on alert to curtail any unwholesome act before, during, and after the elections.

In a related development, there shall be restriction of human and vehicular movements on election day, July 13 from 8am to 3pm in all the 25 local government areas .

Persons exempted from the movement restriction are workers on essential services, as well as all duly registered NABTEB candidates for the Nation Business Certificate, NBC, and the National Technical Certificate, NTC, examinations scheduled to hold on Saturday July 13 at designated centres across the state.

Candidates for the Business and Technical examinations are expected to be armed with individual identity card, exam docket or exam slip indicating examination number and centre, so as to enable the police and other security personnel grant him or her unrestricted movement.

“Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, has graciously approved 12noon as closing time in all government offices on Friday July 12.

“The governor’s directive is to enable public and civil servants perform their civic responsibility on election day by casting vote for any Chairmanship and Councillorship candidates of their choice.

“There shall be restriction of movement across the state on Saturday July 13, from 8am to 3pm. Workers on essential duties, as well as NABTEB candidates for the 2024 NTC and NBC examinations are exempted from the movement restriction order. It shall be enforced by security personnel to ensure compliance.

“We appeal to all Deltans, especially our vibrant youths to maintain peace on election day, and at all times and seasons.

“Election is not a do or die affair, it’s your right to vote and your vote will count.,” Emu said
