Delta State Commissioner for Lands and Surveys, Barr.(Mrs) Kate Onianwa has charged the officials of Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC), to embark on structural development geared towards realizing their social corporate responsibility.
The commissioner made this call alongside with her counterpart in charge of Oil and Gas, Prince Emmanuel Amgbaduba during a meeting with officials of the Shell Company in her office in Asaba,the state capital.
Onianwa stated that Ogidigben which is an oil community in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta was aggrieved by the level of exploitation by shell , adding that it was the reason the host community stopped the operations of the company for some weeks now .
”You cannot be making such huge amount of money from this community yet they lavish in abject poverty ,this is unfair”,she stated.
She urged them to find out what the people really wanted from the company to end the crisis.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Oil and Gas, Prince Amgbaduba also charged the shell officials to embark on sustainable Social Responsibility and to initiate the process of ending the restiveness in Ogidigben community by treating them fairly .
Also speaking, the spokesman of the company, Mr Uche Amaechi commended the commissioners and specifically lauded the Oil and Gas Commissioner for his role in bringing peace to the area.
He said that the crisis had made the company to lose 27 barrels of oil everyday.
