Alleged plans by the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ovie Augustine Omo-Agege to disrupt the gubernatorial election with fake military officers in his desperation to govern the state has been exposed, the Delta State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, has said.
The Commissioner alleged that Omo-Agege has procured hundreds of army camouflage which he will give to fake persons to wear and pose to intimidate unsuspecting voters.
He said the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) has it on credible authority and called on the law enforcement agencies to be on guard to foil such hatchet job.
He maintained that the alleged plans by the APC stalwart was to infiltrate their ranks and file of the military with thugs in disguise so as to undermine the governorship and House of Assembly elections.
Speaking at a press conference in Asaba yesterday, Aniagwu cautioned the arch-rival APC to be civil and adhere strictly to the democratic tenets during the exercise.
He said, “we have the right to take steps to protect our people. APC has procured a lot of military uniforms all in a view to undermine the smooth conduct of the governorship and Houses of Assembly elections tomorrow.
“We call on the military authority to make sure that their rank and file are not infiltrated. We are doing this because it is very important.
“The democratic process can’t be determined by y APC antics. The choice is for the electorates to peacefully decide who became their next govermor, and not by harassment and intimidation.
“We urge the military to up their game, and provide necessary security that will guarantee credible election by keeping the ugly situation under control.
“Because of the desperation that we are seeing in the APC governorship candidate has called for concern. Voters should be freely allowed to exercise the franchise.”
