In a move that underscores its sustained investment in human capital development, the Delta State Government has approved the 2025 bursary awards for indigenes studying in public and private tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori’s approval also extends to scholarship awards for students with disabilities and children of deceased civil servants, as well as special financial assistance for Delta State students at the Nigerian Law School.

The Executive Secretary of the Delta State Bursary and Scholarship Board, Dr. Godfrey Enita, disclosed the development on Thursday, February 12, 2026, during an engagement with the national leadership of the National Association of Delta State Students (NADESSTU).

Dr. Enita explained that the governor’s decision is a deliberate intervention designed to cushion the economic pressures currently confronting many students and their families.

He noted that the meeting with the student body followed concerns raised over delays in the disbursement of the 2025 bursary.

Reassuring the students, he confirmed that the board has commenced the processing phase for the approved bursaries and scholarship payments.

He further disclosed that the financial support package earlier approved for Delta students in the Nigerian Law School is equally being processed for prompt release.

Providing a breakdown of beneficiaries, Dr. Enita revealed that 33,064 students will benefit from the 2025 bursary scheme.

In addition, 545 children of deceased civil servants and 51 students with disabilities will receive scholarship awards, while 533 Law School students will benefit from the special assistance window.

He emphasised that the Oborevwori administration continues to prioritise education as a strategic driver of sustainable development and socio-economic mobility in the state.

Reacting to the development, NADESSTU national executives, led by President Comrade Oweiotu-Ebi Joseph and Senate President Comrade Idiseru Alex, commended the governor for what they described as a responsive and student-friendly intervention.

They noted that the approval is both timely and impactful, adding that it will significantly ease the financial burden on many Delta students and their families.

The student leaders reaffirmed their continued support for the Delta State Government, applauding Governor Oborevwori’s consistent attention to the welfare and educational advancement of Deltans.
