The Delta State Government has responded to recent protests in Udu Local Government Area, reaffirming its commitment to equitable development and open, constructive dialogue.

Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads) and Public Information, Mr. Charles Aniagwu, who spoke during a press briefing in Asaba, described the protest as politically motivated and based on misinformation aimed at discrediting the achievements of the Oborevwori administration.

Aniagwu, flanked by key government media aides,Sir Festus Ahon (Chief Press Secretary), Dr. Fred Latimore (DG, State Orientation Bureau), and Mr. Olisa Ifeajika (Executive Assistant, Public Enlightenment) said the government welcomes genuine feedback but will not be distracted by propaganda.

“We are not against criticism, but what we will not tolerate is deliberate distortion of facts for political gain,” Aniagwu said.

Fairness Beyond Politics

He emphasized that despite Udu not giving overwhelming electoral support to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori in the 2023 elections, the area has received massive investments in infrastructure, education, health, and market development.

“Udu has benefitted immensely from this administration not because of how it voted, but because we govern with fairness and inclusivity,” he stated.

Key Projects in Udu LGA

Aniagwu listed over 27.8 kilometers of roads and 24 kilometers of drainage projects completed or ongoing in Udu, including major link roads and internal streets connecting to Uvwie, Ughelli South, and Warri South-West.

Health facilities have also received a boost, with four primary healthcare centres being rehabilitated and a 4D ultrasound machine supplied to the General Hospital in Otor-Udu.

Additionally, the government has installed a 500KVA transformer along the Orhuwhorun–Usiefrun Road and replaced solar-powered streetlights in Ukpiovwin and Ogbe-Udu.

Revamping Education in Udu

In education, Aniagwu revealed multiple ongoing school renovation and construction projects, including:

A JAMB ICT Centre at Ogbe-Udu Secondary School

Renovation of classroom blocks at Owhrode, Ekete, Ogbe-Udu, Okolor Waterside, and Otor-Udu Secondary Schools

Construction of new classroom blocks at Aladja Grammar School, all complete with offices, toilets, and furniture for students and staff

Our Work Is Verifiable”

He stressed that all the government’s interventions in Udu are physical, measurable, and ongoing, urging residents to see through the noise of political agitators.

“These are not promises. They are projects verifiable, tangible, and impactful,” Aniagwu affirmed.

“We won’t be swayed by political antics. Development in Delta State is driven by principle, not sentiment.”

He concluded by encouraging the youth and communities in Udu to remain focused and not allow themselves to be used by political elements seeking relevance.

“We govern 25 LGAs, not just the ones that voted for us. That is the spirit of true leadership and that is what Governor Oborevwori represents,” he added.
