Delta State Government has expressed its commitment to ensuring that State owned media establishments operate optimally and competitively, even against the backdrop of the present harsh economic conditions in the country.
This assurance was given by the Delta State Commissioner for Information Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, during the budget defence of the proposed financial estimates of the Ministry for the 2025 fiscal year, to the Ministry of Economic Planning.
Dr. Osuoza who was accompanied to the budget defense by the management team of the Ministry and heads of the various parastatals under the Ministry of Information, observed that operations and services in the three State owned media establishments have improved considerably since he assumed office.
However, he noted that there were several challenges including non-availability of adequate equipment and other logistics constraints which have limited their operational scope and affected greater service delivery.
The Delta Information Commissioner, while expressing satisfaction with the outcome of the budget defense, appreciated the Commissioner for Economic Planning, Mr. Sunny Ekadeyan and his team for their understanding and cooperation in addressing the critical budgeting issues of the Information Ministry and its parastatals.
He assured that improvement would be recorded, especially in the services and visibility of the State owned Pointer Newspaper, which will be been given more critical attention to fulfill some of its potentials as a media establishment.
Dr. Osuoza then expressed gratitude to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for ensuring that the State owned media houses remain afloat and visible.
He promised that the State Government would continue to provide critical support and assistance to the media houses and the Ministry of Information to position them adequately in the collective effort to effectively promote and propagate the activities and achievements of the M.O.R.E Agenda to Deltans.
