The Delta State Waste Management Board (DSWMB) has conducted an intensive two-day maintenance and rehabilitation exercise at the government-approved dumpsite in Agbarho, Ughelli North Local Government Area, as part of ongoing efforts to improve environmental sanitation across the state.
The exercise, which took place on Saturday, December 13, and Monday, December 15, 2025, was led by the Chairman of DSWMB, Hon. Matthew Mofe Edema, in partnership with the Ughelli North Local Government Council, under the leadership of its Chairman, Hon. Jaro Egbo.
The initiative formed part of the Delta State Government’s broader strategy to enhance waste management systems, reduce environmental hazards, and promote a healthier living environment for residents.
Officials of the board and the council were on ground to supervise the operation, including the DSWMB Member representing Delta South, Hon. Mrs. Juliet Enifome Ethe; the Member representing Delta Central, Hon. Felix Erhimedafe; the Director of Operations, Mr. Michael Esegba; and the council’s Supervisor for Environment.
During the exercise, heavy-duty machinery and waste evacuation trucks were deployed to remove accumulated refuse, rehabilitate the dumpsite, and restore acceptable waste disposal conditions in the area.
According to the organisers, the intervention was designed to address environmental degradation, mitigate health risks associated with improper waste disposal, and improve sanitation in Agbarho and neighbouring communities.
Speaking on the exercise, Hon. Edema reiterated the board’s resolve to ensure efficient and sustainable waste management across Delta State, noting that routine maintenance of approved dumpsites is essential to achieving long-term environmental cleanliness.
He emphasized that strong collaboration with local government councils remains key to the success of the board’s operations.
Also speaking, Hon. Jaro Egbo praised the DSWMB for the timely intervention and reaffirmed the council’s commitment to working closely with the board to encourage proper waste disposal practices.
He urged residents to patronize approved dumpsites and avoid activities that could undermine sanitation efforts.
Residents of Agbarho welcomed the exercise, describing it as timely and impactful.
They called for sustained monitoring and continuous public sensitization to preserve the gains recorded, while pledging their support for government initiatives aimed at keeping the environment clean, safe, and healthy.
