Delta state government has approved the construction of a six-lane dual carriage road in Asaba, the Delta State capital.

The road would be sited around the River Niger which would equally lead to a waterfront which was approved by the state government.

This was revealed on Tuesday April 4th 2023, by the Commissioner for Information, Mr Charles Aniagwu, while briefing journalists on the outcome of the State Executive Council otherwise known as EXCO meeting presided over by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa in Asaba.

According to him, the council also okayed approval for compensation to owners of buildings and other properties on the right of way amounting to about N1.1 billion.

“Before now, we have seen the need to develop the waterfront here in Asaba. We also need to pay compensation to those who own lands by this waterfront; which is from this axis (Government House) to the Anwai River.

“We are also going to construct a six-lane dual carriage road for us to be able to drive straight to the waterfront. All these were approved at today’s Exco,” Aniagwu stated.

The commissioner said the installation of renewable energy (solar) in government hospitals across the state was equally approved to mitigate energy challenges in the medical facilities.

“We know that our facilities, especially the hospitals are having challenges of inadequate power supply and the cost of running diesel generators has also skyrocketed.

“Consequent upon this development, we have decided to embrace renewable energy sources; this time around, the solar energy to ensure we have power in our hospitals,” he said.

Other approvals include the construction of the second phase of Umunede/Ogwashi-Uku Road, otherwise known as the Old Lagos/Asaba Road and the construction of the perimeter road of the Asaba International Airport, Asaba.
