The Honourable Commissioner for Special Duties (Government House), Dr. Ifeanyi Michael Osuoza, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Comrade Matthew Ochei, describing his passing as a painful loss to the journalism profession and the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Delta State Council.
In a condolence message made available to journalists in Asaba, Dr. Osuoza extended his heartfelt sympathies to the NUJ Delta State Council, the Correspondents’ Chapel, and the management and staff of The Punch Newspapers over the demise of the respected journalist and unionist.
He described Comrade Ochei as a dedicated professional whose courage, commitment, and unwavering adherence to the principles of ethical journalism earned him the admiration and respect of colleagues and stakeholders across the media landscape.
According to the commissioner, the late journalist made invaluable contributions to the media profession and the NUJ family, noting that his legacy of professionalism and service will continue to be remembered, even as his absence will be deeply felt.
Dr. Osuoza said he shares in the grief of the NUJ family, Ochei’s colleagues at The Punch Newspapers, as well as his friends and loved ones, praying that God Almighty grants them the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
He also prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of Comrade Matthew Ochei, expressing hope that his life and work would remain a source of inspiration to journalists and media practitioners.
Comrade Matthew Ochei was until his death a member of the Asaba Correspondents’ Chapel of the NUJ and a journalist with The Punch Newspapers.
