In what has been described as a landmark moment for education and digital innovation in Delta State, the Commissioner for Technical Education, Hon. Smart Ufoh, has commended the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) of Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA) for establishing a state-of-the-art ICT Centre at the Delta Model Technical College, Asaba.

Addressing Newmen on Thursday October 23, 2025, shortly after the commissioning ceremony, which formed part of a national virtual launch connecting 10 newly completed Digital Learning Centres across Nigeria, Hon. Ufoh expressed profound gratitude to the Federal Government for selecting Delta as one of the beneficiary states.

“We are happy today that this has come to pass,” Ufoh declared.

“This initiative of NITDA came through the Renewed Hope Initiative to give us this ICT Centre, and we are grateful that it has become a reality.”

The Commissioner, visibly elated, described the centre as a “life-changing project” that would bridge the technological gap among students, enhance innovation, and position Delta youths for global competitiveness.

“This school is massive and full of potential,” he said.

“We need more of this. I have requested that a full tech hub be established here.

“With this, Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda is being actualized in real terms, it is participatory, practical, and progressive.”

Hon. Ufoh underscored that the ICT centre would revolutionize the way students learn and prepare them for the digital economy, adding that the days of “chalk and slate” are over.

“As one of the students rightly said during the recitation, before now, we were in the dark, using chalk and slate while only imagining the future. But today, that future has come to stay,” he remarked with pride.

He emphasized that the digital transformation aligns perfectly with the State Government’s commitment to quality education and technical empowerment under Governor Oborevwori’s leadership.

“We are going digital,” Ufoh said.

“The kind of education being acquired now is not what we had in our time. For us to grow technologically, these skills must be acquired. Once that happens, the sky will no longer be the limit, it will be our starting point.”

The Commissioner expressed optimism that the newly commissioned ICT centre will unlock innovation, creativity, and a scientific mindset among students, fostering a new generation of inventors and problem solvers.

“There is going to be innovation, there is going to be creativity, and there will be a scientific approach to things,” he noted.

“We want young people who can invent, manufacture, go digital, and apply science to drive our new world. That is the Delta we are building, and with initiatives like this, our tomorrow is assured.”

The event was attended by top officials of the Delta State Ministry of Technical Education, staff and students of the Delta Model Technical College, and representatives from NITDA and the Renewed Hope Initiative.
