…commends his transparent, prudent management of state resources
As the political arena in Delta State gathers incremental steam and momentum occasioned by recent political developments, leaders and political structures of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Delta Central Senatorial District vowed on Friday to return the State Governor, Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori unopposed in 2027.
The leaders reviewed the enviable performance of the governor, and came to the conclusion that the quality of mega projects in the state, especially the three flyovers at DSC roundabout, PTI and Enerhen junction, as well as the rapid dualization of Ughelli-Asaba highway, and several other ongoing projects clearly revealed that the Oborevwori administration stands out in all ramifications.
Deputy Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Arthur Akpowowo, commended governor Oborevwori, for ensuring fiscal discipline, prudent and transparent management of state resources, and congratulated him over the Hall of Fame Award bestowed on him by Urhobo Progress Union, UPU, Worldwide.
He noted that the governor had reduced the debt profile of the state with over N160 billion, out of the the inherited debt profile of over N400 billion without borrowing a penny from any bank or financial institution.
The Deputy Speaker further stated that for the first time since the creation of Delta State, construction giant, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, was engaged by the governor to execute mega high quality projects that would stand the test of time.
Rt Hon Akpowowo, urged all elected representatives and political appointees to assist the governor in his genuine efforts to Advance Delta through the ongoing implementation of the MORE Agenda.
Delta Central PDP Chairman, Chief Anthony Akpomiemie, said the recent defection by the member representing Ethiope Federal Constituency at the green chambers goes to no issue, and that the constituency remain the stronghold of the PDP, assuring that come 2027, PDP and her candidates would win overwhelming.
Senior Political Adviser to the Governor of Delta State, Senator Emmanuel Aguariavwodo, urged elected representatives and political appointees, to consistently project the good governance strides of the governor, saying that for the first time since the creation of Delta State, construction giant, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc is handling mega infrastructural projects across the state.
He noted that the recent defection by a federal lawmaker and daughter of a former governor in the state, would certainly not have negative effects on the political supremacy of the ruling party in the state, PDP, pointing out that Ibori-Suenu’s defection resonated with political events in 2023 governorship election wherein the major opposition party in the state won Ethiope West state constituency seat.
Former Federal Minister of Information and a founding member of PDP, Prof Sam Oyovbaire lauded the visionary leadership and uncommon humility of governor Oborevwori, noting that the level of development across the state since he assumed office attest to his strong determination to Advance Delta beyond 2027.
Prof Oyovbaire, said that judging from the superlative performance of governor Oborevwori, Delta Central Senatorial District shall throw her weight solidly behind the governor come 2027 governorship election, adding that the good people of Urhobo Nation of Delta Central shall do the needful to ensure that the major opposition party in the state suffers another monumental defeat at the polls.
State Director of Protocol, Chief Sunday Onoriode, urged elected representatives and political appointees to be good ambassadors of the governor at all times, saying that appointees should count themselves lucky to be partners in progress with the governor, who graciously appointed them to be co-labourers with him in the ongoing implementation of the MORE Agenda designed to Advance Delta beyond 2027.
Chief Onoriode noted that recent political events in the state pointed to the fact that the major opposition party was already beating the drums for early commencement of political activities, which is why all hands must be on deck to ensure that come 2027, governor Oborevwori and PDP candidates shines forth in a landslide victory.
A former majority leader of Delta State House of Assembly, and former Federal Lawmaker representing Ethiope Federal Constituency at the National Assembly, Rt Hon Akpodiogaga Sunny Emeyese, listed several achievements of governor Oborevwori, and moved a motion for vote of confidence on the governor, and was supported by a former member representing the people of Okpe State Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Hon Felix Anirah.
Speaking to newsmen at the governor’s country home in Osubi where the Delta Central meeting was held on Friday, the Director General, Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe, said the major opposition party in the state cannot and will never be a threat to PDP and governor Oborevwori’s foreseeable landslide victory in 2027.
He assured that the recent defection to the opposition party by the member representing Ethiope Federal Constituency, Hon Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, was long awaited, noting that the signs have been there from the very moment the opposition party won Ethiope West State Constituency seat in 2023.
Dr Oghenesivbe pointed out that Ibori-Suenu’s defection has been viewed by political commentators as a poor political permutation which would obviously backfire at the polls in 2027.
He noted that recent political developments in the state had reinvigorated the unity and strength of PDP in Ethiope East and West LGAs, not minding the fact that some ill-advised members of the ruling party in the state defected as a result of alleged fake and unachievable promises made to them.
“We resolved at the Delta Central meeting to ignore Ibori-Suenu’s defection. It is politically irrelevant and it will not in any way affect the smooth sail of PDP in 2027 general elections in the state. We saw it coming, never a surprise when she defected.
“Ibori-Suenu knew how she managed to clinch the party’s ticket in 2027, and the political deceit she exhibited openly after her victory at the polls. Therefore, Deltans are not surprised that she finally crossed the political carpet.
“We resolved to sustain the political synergy across party structures, and to continue to be partners in progress with governor Sheriff Oborevwori till May 29, 2031.
“The governor is a God fearing leader, and we are very proud of his landmark achievements in less than two years in office.
“The governor’s monumental achievements in all sectors of the state economy is unprecedented, and we celebrate his leadership sagacity, foresight, humility and selfless service to the state and people. We are proud to call him our excessive local content governor.
“As a party, Delta Central PDP and her leaders passed a vote of confidence on governor Oborevwori in recognition of his good governance strides, and visionary leadership.
“We have so many good stories to tell in Delta State since governor Oborevwori took over the mantle of leadership.
“The governor and PDP Delta are in good standing, nothing to worry about,” Oghenesivbe assured.
