A public hearing on the Bill for a Law to Repeal the Rent Control and Recovery of Residential Premises Law, 1977, and Establish the Landlord and Tenant Law of Delta State, 2025, has been scheduled for Tuesday, October 28, 2025.
The bill, which seeks to modernize and streamline tenancy regulations in the state, was read for the second time and subsequently referred to the Joint Committee on Housing, Women Affairs, Girl Child Entrepreneur and Humanitarian Support Services, and the Committee on Physical Planning and Urban Renewal for detailed legislative review.
According to a statement by the Chairman, House Committee on Housing, Women Affairs, Girl Child Entrepreneur and Humanitarian Support Services, Hon. Bridget Anyafulu, the public hearing will take place at the Press Centre, Delta State House of Assembly Complex, Asaba, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
The statement invites written and oral submissions from relevant ministries, agencies, and stakeholders, including the Commissioners for Justice, Housing, Physical Planning and Urban Renewal, and Information, as well as representatives of the Association of Organized Realtors, Landlords Association, Tenants Association, and other public and private sector stakeholders.
It further noted that all memoranda should be enclosed in sealed envelopes and addressed to the Chairman, House Committee on Housing, Women Affairs, Girl Child Entrepreneur and Humanitarian Support Services, marked: “Delta State Bill to Repeal the Rent Control and Recovery of Residential Premises Law, 1977, and Establish the Landlord and Tenant Law of Delta State, 2025.”
