The Association of Community Newspaper Publishers of Nigeria (ACNPN), Delta State Chapter, has commended Governor Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for sustaining a media-friendly environment that allows journalists and community newspapers to operate without hindrance.
The commendation was made during the 2025 ACNPN Publishers Week and Lecture held in Ibusa, Oshimili North Local Government Area.
Speaking at the event, the State Chairman of ACNPN, Comrade Ike Abiagom, described Governor Oborevwori as a leader who clearly understands the role of the media in promoting transparency, public participation and grassroots development.
Abiagom said the administration’s openness to media engagement has strengthened community journalism and encouraged effective dissemination of public information across Delta State.
“In Delta today, community newspapers are thriving because the government has created an environment that supports free expression, constructive reporting and fair access to information,” he stated.
He added that the Association remains committed to complementing the government’s efforts by informing, educating and uplifting communities through responsible journalism.
The 2025 Publishers Week focused on the theme: “Empowering the People: Community Newspapers, Mental Health Awareness, Access to Basic Healthcare and Health Unity: The Role of Cooperative Societies in Promoting Community Healthcare and Mental Wellness.”
The theme, participants said, reflects the evolving role of community newspapers in addressing social issues and enhancing public enlightenment.
