Delta @34: Oborevwori Urges Unity, Prosperity As State Marks Anniversary
Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has called on the people of Delta State to remain united and committed to building a greater, more prosperous state as the oil-rich state marked its 34th anniversary on Wednesday.
The governor made the call during a special thanksgiving service held at the Government House Chapel, Asaba, where he expressed gratitude to God for His grace and faithfulness since the state’s creation on August 27, 1991.
Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, Oborevwori described the day as one of reflection and thanksgiving for 34 years of resilience, progress, and unity.
He paid tribute to the founding fathers, past leaders, civil servants, and citizens who, through sacrifice and service, have built Delta into what he called “a symbol of diversity, academic excellence, and human capital development.”
“Unity is the bedrock of our progress, and our diversity is our greatest strength. I therefore call on all Deltans to continue to promote peace, fairness, and brotherhood,” Oborevwori said.
Infrastructure and Development Gains
Highlighting the achievements of his administration under the MORE Agenda, now in its second year, the governor said several inherited projects had been completed while new landmark infrastructure was being delivered.
These, he said, include flyover bridges at PTI Junction, Enerhen Junction, DSC Roundabout, Otovwodo Junction in Ughelli, and Uromi Junction in Agbor.
For riverine communities, projects such as the Ayakoromo bridge and the Omadino–Okerenkoko–Kokodiagbene road were being prioritized to improve connectivity, unlock the blue economy, and create jobs.
Oborevwori also restated his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment through scholarships, skills acquisition, and entrepreneurship programmes, while strengthening healthcare and education.
He disclosed that primary healthcare centers are being upgraded with modern facilities, free maternal and child healthcare services are ongoing, and vocational institutions are being expanded to boost human capital development.
Thanksgiving and Rededication
Reaffirming his reliance on divine guidance, the governor said thanksgiving remains a key to sustaining Delta’s progress.
“Thanksgiving unlocks divine blessings. As we celebrate 34 years of Delta, we dedicate our future to God, trusting Him for prosperity, peace, and progress,” he said, quoting Psalm 107:1.
Oborevwori thanked his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, the Speaker and members of the House of Assembly, the judiciary, his cabinet, civil servants, and the people of Delta for their support, noting that the mandate given to him in 2023 remains his driving force to deliver more.
Sermon and Prayers
In his sermon titled “Forget Not All His Benefits”, the Chaplain of Government House, Asaba, Venerable Charles Osemenam, said Deltans have every reason to thank God for peace, development, and purposeful leadership since the state’s creation.
He urged citizens to sustain their support and prayers for Governor Oborevwori, describing Delta as a state blessed in sports, education, infrastructure, and natural resources.
The thanksgiving service was attended by senior government officials, political leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil servants, and other dignitaries who offered prayers for the peace and prosperity of the state.
