The disqualification pronounced on Sheriff Oborevwori, the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship candidate in Delta State by the Federal High Court sitting in Abuja, has caused unusual quietness in the camp of Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, the State governor.
Most stakeholders of the PDP in the State are disappointed at the last-minute judgement which has thrown the party in pandemonium following the discrepancies uncovered in Okowa’s preferred candidate.
The Government House and PDP leaders celebrated reports of two Court rulings that favoured Oborevwori, little did they know that the last straw that would break the Carmel’s back was yet to come.
They were embarrassed that despite alleged huge resources committed into the case to quash the certificate discrepancy saga, the Federal High Court eventually sacked the anointed candidate of Okowa, ordering the him to stop parading himself as the governorship candidate of the party.
Immediately report of Oborevwori’s displacement filtered into the State, all PDP leaders and stakeholders wore long faces, refusing to speak on the matter.
Most of them were scared to speak on the matter until Oborevwori had to officially react before they took to their various social media handles particularly Facebook to make posts.
Meanwhile, some supporters who had pasted the Oborevwori’s stickers on their vehicles have started pulling them off, considering the daisy nature of the case on the possibility of the party and Oborevwori bouncing back to victory.
Although, Oborevwori in a release vowed to appeal the judgement delivered by Justice Taiwo O. Taiwo, the possibility of the Court sitting to deliver judgement is unpredictable as Monday and Tuesday next week have been declared by the federal government as public holidays with Wednesday and Thursday left before the Friday deadline for substitution of names if allowed in the law.
Also, rumour from the grapevine have it that the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) are in talk with Okowa not to approach the Appeal Court.
It was gathered that Umar Baturu, the party’s National Organising Secretary would be in Asaba to negotiate a way forward.
However, it was learnt that Okowa was hell bent on pursuing the case as he is not willing to listen to the party’s NWC and National Executive Committee (NEC).
According to the source, Okowa is facing reality that PDP won’t be winning the presidency and he cannot gamble with the governorship stake but the party’s National body in Abuja, is set to force Okowa’s hands to accept the High Court verdict.
