Governorship candidate on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and former minister of State for education, Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi, was given a rousing welcome by members of the party who demonstrated their total love for him, defying heavy rainfall as they pledged their loyalty to him at a rally in Kwale, Ndokwa west local government area of Delta State.
The Chairman of the Osun State Governorship Election National Campaign Council, had on arrival in Kwale ran into a tumultuous welcome as party members from the 25 local government councils were happy to welcome him to the area.
He was also given a warm reception at the Palace of His Royal Majesty (HRM) Uzeuku Isaac P. O. U Obi, the Oduosa of Utagba-Ugbe kingdom, with the State chairman of the party, Ambassador Oke Idawene, JP, executives, candidates of the party vying for various positions and members who trooped into the Palace with their white outfits and caps emblazoned with the image of the horse to indicate their strength and unblemished loyalty.
Heavy rainfall at the hour of Gbagi’s arrival at the Palace didn’t deterred the party members who were all over the Palace to welcome their choice candidate to the ancient city of Kwale.
At the Palace, Gbagi, assured the traditional ruler and Palace Chiefs that he would not turn his back on them particularly the town owing to the fact that he is the “Ataneru”, the talk na do, a title he earned due to his diligence, accomplishments, philanthropic gestures and lot more from the oldest king in the world, His Royal Majesty (HRM), Dr. Canon (Ovie) R.L. Ogbon, Ogoni Oghoro 1, the Owhorode of Olomu Kingdom.
The torrential rain that greeted the venue of the rally where he was welcomed was ignored by stalwarts of the party, as the rain increased as soon as Gbagi, arrived the venue of the rally could not also deterred the party adherents.
However, the party supporters cared less about the weather and have already turned the venue into a carnival as motorcycle operators otherwise known as Okada riders, showed their charismatic displays, entertaining the unprecedented crowd.
The excitement at the venue despite the rain is particularly phenomenal given that Gbagi is a household name and a game changer which is not only unusual with him but a trait everywhere he goes.
Some of the supporters said they can’t wait for the election to come as they are expecting massive victory for Gbagi and the entire candidates of the party.
Addressing the mammoth crowd which gathered at the event despite the rain, Gbagi charged them to come out in their large numbers to exercise their right at the March 11th, scheduled for the governorship election.
He tasked them not to cast their votes and leave the polling centers but to remain and defend their votes, “After casting your votes, do not leave, wait to defend your votes”, saying Kwale would experience the first ever turn around in his administration.
Gbagi told SDP faithful that the party has won the elections already, assuring them that whatever his administration was going to do in terms of youth engagement and emancipation would supercede what previous administrations have done in the State.
