The sleepy town of Otor Owhawha Community, Ughievwen kingdom in Ughelli south local government area of Delta State was agog over the visit of the governorship candidate on the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi FNIM.
Monday, 19th September, 2022, will remain indelible in the annals of the history of Otor Owhawha, Egbo-Ideh, Otogbo, Okuemo and Ihwruku, as the foremost industrialist and his entourage were received separately by various dance troops and youths from the communities on their arrival.
He was accompanied by the respected son of Owhawha town, who is the party Chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Area, Pastor Amos Osiki and mammoth crowd of party faithful and supporters.
Gbagi, was at Otor Owhawha town hall, and other communities on a visit to formally introduce himself as the governorship candidate of SDP to the people.
He said the visit would also give him the opportunity for on the spot assessment of the communities just as he encouraged them to see what they are currently going through as a stepping stone to the future.
He said it would sufficiently arm them to make the right choice of governorship in 2023.
He also encouraged them to take interest on who governs them, what they have done in their individual private lives to ameliorate the sufferings of the people and not what they would do with state resources.
In Owahwa, he charged them to end the war between them and their neighbouring community, Okwagbe, shun acts of indiscipline and other tendencies capable of affecting authentic self development and that of the Community, promising to end the war.
After a brief interactive session with the people, who shared with him their problems, including their damaged transformers which may result in epileptic power supply if not urgently attended to, unemployment that have ravaged the youths, poor road networks linking other sub-clans among others challenges, Gbagi, assured them of what his government would do come 2023.
But in return, Gbagi donated one million naira (N1 million) to assist in fixing the transformer that was destroyed.
He assured them that he would bring more dividends of democracy as his government would attract projects in the community that are key to their socio-economic lives.
Gbagi also thanked the President General of the Community, Chief Patrick Owhobevughe Oghenekero, for his abiding love and faith in the community as demonstrated by his many acts of leadership.
Eulogizing him as a strong and energetic man, he encouraged him to remain close to his people and work for the victory of SDP in the forthcoming election.
The oldest man in the community, Mr. Okoro Ekrobe, prayed thus: “Our son Gbagi, has come that he wants to be the governor of Delta State.
“This is the first party that we all know. Gbagi, has come that we should vote for him, this prayers that I am praying today, may all and sundry work for him.
“May the youths, elders and the entire Ughievwen kingdom work for him. As he goes about his consultations and campaigns subsequently, he will be successful.
“May his heart desires to govern the state come to pass. May it be well with him, his supporters and the entire State.
“Anyone in the Ughievwen kingdom and by extension Delta State that wants to work against his ambition, we pray that God will fight against that person. May it be well with Gbagi, I pray” he said.
In their separate remarks, the chairman of Owahwa, Egbo-Ideh, Otogbo, Okuemo and Ihwruku communities, Comrade Emma Showboy, Mr. Frank Gelor, Chief Patrick Owhobevughe Oghenekero, Isaac Okuku, among others, said that Gbagi’s visit was a major source of encouragement to them.
Speaking earlier, the Ughelli south SDP LGA Chairman, Pastor Amos Osiki, said that the communities, stood still for Gbagi “because he is a man of the people”.
He said Gbagi has a deep passion for the entire people, adding that his visit would prove the public support for the SDP governorship candidate and other candidates of the party.
He said that the visit was a sign of positive and good things for the communities and the state at large.
“All hands must be on deck to support Gbagi to rescue Delta from decadence”, he said.
