As activities gathers momentum ahead of the 2023 governorship election, candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) and former minister of State for education, Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi, has received spiritual fortification geared towards gaining victory at the polls.
Receiving the former Minister of education in company of the National Chairman of the party, Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam, the National Working Committee (NWC), governorship, House of Representatives and House of Assembly candidates from other states, Abe 1, Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, Dr. Emmanuel Ekemejewan Sideso, charged them on the need to take the unity of the country first.
The former Director of Currency, Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), told the mammoth crowd at the Palace that Gbagi is a man of his words.
“Everybody knows that we are friends, I know him not because he is here, if he believes in something and says he will do it, he will do it, I have no doubt about it.
“Yes! You have said a lot and I pray that when you get there, you will remember the traditional rulers.
“If something is working abroad why can it not work here? Your success is our prayers. I pray for good health, long life and prosperity”.
Earlier, while addressing the monarch, the SDP governorship candidate lamented the effect of misrule in the state, saying “I will transform this State and Uvwie local government. I have sat down with this Governor to marshal out what we will do for the State.
“I am sure he believe either in his moment of truth that I will transform this State. Unless we get it right, this State will continue to go backwards than we met it.
“As a governor, I will not owe pensioners a dim and I will clear all the backlogs of pensioners entitlements within six months. My government will produce an educational system where Deltans will not pay school fees from secondary school to the University”, stressing that the scheme is doable as the funds are available to do it.
He bemoaned the unequipped state of hospitals in the State, “my government will produce one of the best hospitals and I will make medical a tourism in Delta. I have a template of what to do to change the fortunes of this place”.
He promised to give Deltans befitting housing scheme, provide industries, stressing that he would revamp the ailing seaports in the state to boost the economy.
“It is the apathy of good kings and people like you that make lunatics and people who are not qualified to govern us”, commending him for his ability to end the wanton killings and social vises that once overrun the place just as he pleaded with him not to allow the state to die.
Meanwhile, the monarch has urged politicians to give traditional rulers constitutional roles in their various abodes.
