Ahead of the 2923 governorship election in Delta State, governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), and former minister of State for education, Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi, said if he puts in 25 percent efforts into the race as he did for the incumbent governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, he would coasts to a landslide victory.
Addressing journalists in Abuja on Sunday July 31st 2022, Gbagi recounted how he proscribed the Urhobo Progress Union (IPU), that stood against Okowa’s ambition for him (Okowa) to emerge as governor.
In May 2021, the former minister of State Education, Gbagi, tasked members of the National Association of āOkadaā Union, on the need to always support the administration of Governor Okowa, for him to finish stronger.
Gbagi, made the call when the Union visited him at his Oginibo residence in Ughelli south local government area of the state.
He charged the commercial motorcycle operators to register when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) commence the Continuous Registration Exercise for those who are up to 18 years and above to register to enable them to exercise their franchise in the forthcoming election.
Also, in June 2021, Gbagi and the Chairman, Senate Committee on Niger-Delta, Senator Peter Nwaoboshi, fell out, over the performance of Okowa, who has done six years in office rhen.
Senator Nwaoboshi in a forwarded message reportedly told some persons: āI am a PDP Senator but I have to tell you the truth. Urhobo and Itsekiri governors performed credibly well than our own Anioma governor.
Flowing from the above, Gbagi, maintained that if he puts just 25 percent of what he did for Okowa, into his campaigns, other candidates would come far behind him in the election.
From all indications, Gbagi is the only governorship candidate among those jostling for the number seat that has the development of the state at heart as efforts to thwart his swelling popularity has met brick walls.
It is therefore, time for Deltans to go to the poll to vote for him and defend their votes as any thing short of this would spell doom for our children yet unborn.
