The support base of the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), in Delta State, Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi has continued to increase since he joined the party.
Gbagi, a former minister of State for education, pulled out of the gubernatorial primaries of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) in May, accusing the Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa-led PDP of “hijacking, threatening his life, bribing of delegates and having a predetermined outcome for the primaries”.
Gbagi has since been gaining popularity, among the old and young people, and some Deltans have concluded that the 2023 general elections will spring surprises.
Judging by the increasing number of Deltans particularly the youths across ethnic and religious divides, due to his programmes and policies, have joined what has come to be known as a social movement.
With thousands of followers who are identifying with the governorship ambition of the former Chairman of the Legal Aid Council of Nigeria, it is obvious that Olorogun Gbagi’s political fortune has soared.
Supporting the SDP movement, and the choice of Deltans to align with Gbagi, the President General of Arhagba Community in Ughelli south local government area of the state, Mr. Emmanuel Onochereghara, led his executives to pledge their support for Gbagi.
They made the pledge on Thursday September 29th 2022, when the former Chairman of Delta Property Development Authority (DDPA), visited the community to consult with them ahead of 2023.
The largest private investor in the state, reiterated his youth emancipation programme and the payment of N30, 000 to them from the inception of his administration before engaging them in various skills.
Also, the oldest man in the community, Papa Udoro Akporkalahayi, known as the ‘Okpako-Orehre’, joined in solidarity and prayers for the successful emergence of Gbagi, as the State Governor come 2023.
Similarly, the youth Chairman, Mr. Kopkpor David, also led the entire Arhagba youths to Join SDP.
They expressed satisfaction as they receive SDP party cards as full members.
According to them, “Delta has become a hopeless state over the past seven years. The youths are completely hopeless. We are not going to run away, because we have hope in Olorogun Barr. Kenneth Gbagi, to rescue us and the state.
“The only candidate that has energized the youths and given them hope in this season is Gbagi”, they declared.
