As the race towards 2023 governorship election gathers weight in Delta State, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has vowed to chase the ruling People Democratic Party (PDP), from power.

The Deputy Senate President, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege who doubles as the Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly (NASS), stated this on Saturday April 24th 2021, shortly after inspecting the rehabilitation work on the Asaba-Ugbolu-Illah road which is currently under construction in Oshimili north local government area of the state.

Asked how his party which seems to be fractured in the state would be able to wrestle power from PDP, he said: “That is your judgment not mine. You just wait and see as we head towards 2023 election, most of the Egyptians you see in the zone, you will not see them anymore, you just watch”.

He pointed out that his party, the APC would get it through the votes of the people by way of giving dividends of democracy to Deltans, “we have a hearken to the cries of the electorate, what they are asking of us, we are doing for them.

“It is not just about human capital development but doing things that will be impactful and we are doing that. If you go to my zone right now, I have done a lot. I am now in synergy with my colleague here. He is doing same very well and very soon, we are going to mobilize the south and by the time we do that, the stage is set.

He expressed confidence that come 2023, APC would sweep Delta and most of the states in the South-south.

On insecurity, the APC leader called on Nigerians to give the new security chiefs some time to be able to deliver, noting that the change in the country’s security architecture was a response by President Muhammadu Buhari to the cry of the Senate.

“The insecurity challenge in the country is a very big one but you should also note that this is not the one that is limited to Nigeria right now, it is everywhere but everyday in the floor of the Senate, we put our heads together to probe into motions and how can address these issues. We pleaded with Mr. President that we needed a change in the leadership of the security agencies.

“They were there for so many years and this things continued and we thought we needed a breathe of fresh air by the enthronement of a new leadership, he oblige us and now we have a new leadership. I think we should just give them some time to come up with the ways to implement their own ideas.

“People should also remember that these things didn’t just start with us. This was a big challenge, it was there before we came. Recall that even before the 2015 elections, attacks were brought directly to Abuja but all of that have been curtailed. We are trying to localize it to the northeast and the security agencies are trying”, he added.

Also speaking, the Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District, Barr. Peter Nwaoboshi, while fielding questions from journalists, said what he has attracted to his zone, no other Senator that has served the zone has done so.

According to Nwaoboshi, they talk about development each time they see and not party, stressing that the state is blessed working with the Deputy Senate President, “there is no town or community in my zone that they will say this is what they brought. I challenge any Senator who has represented Delta North from the creation to date that will say what he has done is more than what I have done in terms of development”.

But the Senate Deputy President who cut in, said: “the bulk of what has been done in this state is being done by the Chairman Senate Committee on NDDC. The bulk of his projects here are all roads. We are privilege to have him heading that Committee. If he leaves that Committee tomorrow, we are in trouble that is why we won’t allow him to leave. We are very happy, he is doing very well.

“If you go to almost every Community in this zone, you will see that he is accurate with the road construction everywhere and he is also helping in Delta Central and he and I are thinking how we are going to move it to Delta South”, Senator Omo-Agege said.

On the road inspected, the Deputy Senate President expressed satisfaction on the pace and quality of work done, saying that they are happy that in the next few days, the road rehabilitation would be completed.
