Renowned journalist Comrade Patrick Ochei, Editor-in-Chief of Anioma Trust, has been honored with the Award of Excellence in recognition of his outstanding contributions to journalism and media excellence.
The award was presented on behalf of Dr. Newton Jibunoh, OON (The Desert Warrior), by Webiit Technology Limited for Ochei’s dedication to truth, integrity, and impactful storytelling, particularly in support of Dr. Jibunoh’s Fourth Expedition.
Expressing his gratitude, Patrick Ochei described the award as inspirational, stating that while he has received many accolades in his career, this particular recognition holds deep personal significance.
“I am proud and grateful for this award. It inspires me greatly, as it comes from a platform created to celebrate Dr. Newton Jibunoh’s life-changing adventures. Dr. Jibunoh is a global figure whose achievements transcend universal recognition,” Ochei remarked.
A Life-Changing Connection with Dr. Newton Jibunoh
Ochei shared a deeply personal connection to Dr. Newton Jibunoh, recalling how years ago, Jibunoh’s construction company, Costain (West Africa) Plc., gave him the opportunity to work and save enough money to pursue his education.
“Many years ago, Dr. Jibunoh provided me with the opportunity to go to school through his construction company. Today, I am honored to receive an award nominated by him. It is a full-circle moment for me,” he said.
Dr. Jibunoh’s Legacy and the Fourth Expedition
Dr. Newton Jibunoh, famously known as The Desert Warrior, made history by crossing the Sahara Desert from London to Nigeria to study desertification and environmental degradation.
His passion led him to repeat the expedition three more times, each time mentoring young explorers to continue his mission.
At 87, Dr. Jibunoh has now conceptualized the Fourth Expedition, in partnership with Webiit Technology Limited.
This initiative, “My Fourth Expedition Back to Campus,” aims to groom young undergraduates in Dennis Osadebay University and beyond, encouraging them to focus on environmental sustainability and tech-driven solutions.
The program leverages AI-powered digital marketing opportunities to help students develop tech careers while contributing to environmental conservation.
A Humbled and Grateful Awardee
Patrick Ochei expressed profound appreciation for being among the few recipients of this prestigious award from the former CEO of Costain (West Africa) Plc., Dolphin Estate Limited, Chairman of Didi Museum, Mandela Garden and Resort, and Founder of Fight Against Desert Encroachment (FADE), Dr. Newton Jibunoh.
He also extended his gratitude to Webiit Technology Limited’s CEO, Mr. Ajayi Adebayo, and his team, including Mr. Casimir Enedouwa, for recognizing his contributions to journalism, especially community journalism.
