No fewer than 10 worshippers have been reported to have died from the Salvation Ministry building collapse in Okpanam, Oshimili north local government area of Delta State.
It was learnt that a yet to be disclosed number of other worshippers were trapped while several other sustained injuries in the incident.
Trouble started on Tuesday January 11th 2022, about 5:55pm when worshippers were gathered in the building which was being used for the first time.
It was learnt that eight persons were rescued unhurt, while four persons have been rushed to the Asaba Specialist Hospital.
Among the rescue team, is the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) Chief Patrick Ukah, Commissioner for Health, Dr Ononye Mordi, personnel of Red Cross Society and fire fighters.
In a video circulating, some of the church members, families and sympathisers were seen crying while other were praising God for the gift of life.
Meanwhile, the-one story building belonging opposite Rain Oil Filling Station by Redeemed Junction, along Okpanam Road caved in while still under construction.
LEAP TV gathered that the building, whose original design was tempered with caved in during church service, thereby trapping the worshipers particularly the children section.
It was also revealed that a reconstruction work was ongoing without recourse to the original strength of the foundation of the structure.
